Hi, I’m Flo
My mission is simple, I want to encourage young people to connect more with nature and get creative with their hands.
With over 20 years in education, from teaching art, design, and textiles, to being head of year and head of art departments for more than 8 years. I’ve taught in both primary and secondary schools. For the last 5 years, I’ve been working with an education company, teaching young people vital life skills to set them up for future success. Before education I worked as a designer for an ethical fashion company. I’m also a mum of two kids (Freya, 6, and Raphi, 4).
I love seeing my own children crafting and creating, and teaching children new skills brings me so much joy - from painting and dying to printmaking, weaving and sculpture. I want to get young people (and parents) in the community excited and confident about their creative skills.
I believe everyone has creativity that can be unleashed. Too often, children are led to believe they’re ‘bad at art’ if they don’t have perfect drawing skills. But art comes in many forms, and the process of creating is incredibly therapeutic and supports positive mental health. I’m on a mission to inspire them to feel more connected to the natural world and embrace their creative potential!
NestSpace
What is NestSpace?
I’m lucky enough to have a tiny, enchanted woodland at the bottom of my garden. For 18+ years the woodland was left unloved and ignored. Recently, my husband (Dan) and I cleared some of the brambles, allowing more natural light to reach the forest floor, and discovered just how special this space is. Nestled between an allotment and a conservation area, it feels secluded and like you’re in a woodland out of London.
I knew I wanted to use this space for something special, and the idea of ‘Creative activities in nature’ for NestSpace came to me like a thunderbolt. I haven’t looked back since! The space has developed, and I’ve recently built a studio for creating and teaching.
